Mechanical Noise & Vibration Control

Acoustics must be considered in building services design as most items of mechanical plant or equipment generate noise. The noise can be transmitted through the building to its occupants and outside the building to the external environment.

Therefore, mechanical equipment must be selected, and equipment spaces designed, with an emphasis on the objective to provide acceptable sound levels in occupied spaces of the building in which the equipment is located, and outside the building to the external environment in the community. Furthermore, operation of Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) equipment causes vibrations that can propagate into occupied spaces. Noise control in HVAC system design involves examining sound sources, transmission paths, and receivers.

Telemetrix can assist with the acoustic treatment of services including:

  • Acoustic attenuators;
  • Acoustic lining of duct systems;
  • Vibration isolators and flexible connections; and
  • Design of systems to avoid the noise generation.
